Runescape Weapon - Melee

Melee weapons are used for hand to hand combat . How effectively a player uses a melee weapon is governed by their attack and strength skills. The following are not all of the melee weapons (as many unrelated objects, such as a rubber chickens, can be used as weapons) but these are the most commonly used. Some weapons, such as dragon weapons, granite mauls and abyssal whips exhibit special attacks that allow a user to perform such effects as hitting twice in one turn or stunning an opponent.

Abyssal whip

The abyssal whip is currently known as the most useful, most accurate and most expensive weapon(can cost up to 5 million gold coins) in RuneScape. It requires 70 attack to wield. It is a rare monster drop from the Abyssal Demon that takes a Slayer level of 85 to kill. Though the whip is generally accepted as the most effective implement of Melee training in RuneScape, it lacks the ability to directly train the Strength statistic. The Abyssal whip's special attack causes the player to absorb 10% of their opponent's energy on successful hits. Unsurprisingly, many believe it to possess the highest attack bonuses of all weapons, although in truth both the Dragon Halberd and Dharok's Great Axe possess higher attack bonuses than the abyssal whip.

On the other hand, the abyssal whip is undoubtedly a much more effective weapon due to its superior speed (attacks are faster than that of a dagger) and the fact that it is wielded single-handed, allowing the use of a shield; in comparison, the above mentioned weapons are currently the two slowest double-handed weapons in the world of Runescape.
