Ranged Weapons - Crossbows (bolts)

Crossbows aren't used often because they are not nearly as fast or accurate as bows. However, they can be advantageous when fighting dragons as they are held one-handed (whereas bows are held two-handed) and allow you to hold an anti-dragonfire shield. There are only three types of crossbows:

• Crossbow
• Phoenix Crossbow: This crossbow is used in the Shield of Arrav quest; it has the same attack bonus, but some players claim that it is more powerful than the normal crossbow.
• Karil's Crossbow: This is one of the most powerful ranged weapon in RuneScape. It is part of a barrows equipment set and requires bolt racks to work.(members only)

Only normal bolts are available to nonmembers, but as ever, members can attach bolt tips to the bolts to make them more powerful. All bolts can be used at any ranged level:

• Bolts
• Opal bolts : Opal bolt tips can be received from using a chisel on a cut opal ; Opals are mined from gem rocks in Shilo Village , pickpocketed from ham members and dug up/panned from the digsite.
• Pearl bolts : Pearl Bolt tips can be received from using a chisel on pearls; Pearls can be caught while fishing with a big net.
• Barbed bolts : Barbed bolt tips can be bought from the ticket merchant in Hemenster's range guild.
• Bolt racks : Bolt racks can be bought from a man at the docks of Port Phantysmus. They only work with Karil's crossbow.

Runescape Defence - The Crystal Shield

Degrades: Every 250 hits you take that did damage. No hit that does 0 (blue splat) qualifies against your shield. Cost from elf Islwyn: 750k Recharge cost from elf Ilfeen:

1st Charge: 750000gp, 2nd Charge: 600000gp, 3rd Charge: 450000gp, 4th Charge: 300000gp, 5+ Charge: 150000gp(price does not change from the 5th charge on)

The Crystal Shield is arguably the best anti-range shield in RuneScape. It beats every shield in range at ALL decay states except the granite shield. Even then, thats at 2/10. For melee defense, it's not too great. Mages could consider this to balance their weakness to Rangers in the wild.

The Crystal Shield also lasts a long time in non PvP combat. Since many of the monsters that players train their melee skills on usually hit zero (and not count to decaying the shield), the shield helps this out even further.
