Battle Axes and warhammers tend not to be particularly popular amoung RuneScape users. The battle axe (or b-axe) is sometimes used in the wilderness because it has a combination of crush and slash attacks, but the seldom instances where a crush attack is useful do not make up for its low accuracy . Comparably, the warhammer exhibits the same attack statistics as a battle axe, but can only be used with a crush attack, therefore making it even less popular.

Nonmembers can use bronze, iron, steel, mithril, black, adamant and rune battle axes and warhammers, while members can use Dragon Battle Axes . These can be bought in the Hero's guild(members only) after completing the Hero's quest (members only), but are much cheaper when bought from other players. The special of the dragon battle axe temporarily increases your strength while decreasing your attack, defense, magic and ranged skills. When used in conjunction with a restore potion (members only)(which restores attack and defense to their normal levels), the special is comparable to drinking a super strength potion(members only) but for much cheaper. Nonetheless, the dragon battle axe is very expensive (so it is not commonly used in the wilderness ) and slow (so is not used to train except for as a supplementary weapon).
